While pursuing training in animal communication, I was also drawn to Reiki – what often feels like Reiki “magic” to me – as this gentle energetic modality is frequently used to ease suffering and promote healing for both humans and animals.
Because animals are particularly sensitive to energy than humans, the positive impact of Reiki on rescue animals suffering the ill-effects of abuse and neglect are widely reported, and the gentle therapy is also commonly employed to assist animals recovering from medical procedures or experiencing age-related challenges like arthritis.
And, because and Reiki is permission-based – meaning a Reiki practitioner must ask permission of the recipient in order to send Reiki, it is a natural adjunct to animal communication. And when I send Reiki to an animal, it often becomes a mini-animal communication session because they communicate their wishes and opinions about Reiki to me during our connection. (Sometimes the messages and images I receive during a Reiki Love session are quite entertaining and interesting to their human caretakers, and I provide a brief report to human clients, by phone or text, sharing some details about how the connection went.)
Why did I start calling it “Reiki Love” versus “Reiki”?
As my Reiki practice has grown and developed, I began “optimizing” my distance Reiki for animals as “Reiki Love sessions,” because a lot of love is sent along with the Reiki energy. I also integrated several techniques from additional training as a Level One Healing Touch For Animals (HTA) practitioner into my Reiki practice with the intention of “charging up” the Reiki magic. For good measure, I also mix in aspects of angelic reiki, color reiki and crystal reiki into my process — all of which supports a personalized perception that the Reiki I send to animals is powered by a little extra love-infusion.
NOTE: Beyond my training and attunements in the Usui tradition of Reiki, my Reiki “pedigree” includes Advanced Animal Reiki coursework & certification with renowned animal communicator Nancy Windheart — a Reiki Master-Teacher and creator/founder of the Animal Communication Academy.
